We’re streaming live this weekend from the Northwest Folklife Festival down at Seattle Center. We’ll be at the VERA stage interviewing the bands and broadcasting their performances. Tonight is a theme on Cascadian Black Metal Folk. I KNOW! Double-U Tee F!!! It’s going to be amazing! Dj Cleveland Cuts is out in the field and we’ll be keeping it real all evening - probably live blogging and taking photos of the festivities!! Email us with any questions for the bands!

And stay tuned all weekend!!
Hellyeafuckyes! The Dodos are back with their second full-length album, “Visiter”! Think West African Ewe drumming meets blues fingerpicking meets tribal chants reminiscent of Akron/Family. Check it out if you know what’s good for you. They’ll be in Seattle on the 25th of June, playing with the OhSees at Neumos. Put on your friend hat- I’ll see you there!

dj dearbornagain talks with Paleo about recording 365 songs in a year while being out on the road..growing up in Elgin ..and more.
plus! Paleo will play live for us in the studio as well.
The band Turkey Fingers exist only my mind and in the digital realm, but I thought I should credit the performers and the recordings.
Turkey Fingers “Wave a white ribbon…Why Should the boys hands freeze? I felt hungry…”
A.Y. Garnisova : vocals
A.I Kazakov : vocals
A. Gurdeyova : vocals
Joe “fingers” Carr : piano
W. “pee-wee” Gerhardt Hunt III : trombone
The three vocalists are from the album pictured “Folk Music of the Finno-Ugrik and Turkik peoples”. The three vocals used are from Singers in the Tartar Region of southern russia in either ‘68 or ‘70. The first two verses (and first two vocalists listed, respectively) are uncut and at the 3rd has two cuts only. All three are at the proper pitch and speed. I added the harmony vocal on the last verse by pitching my self up 4 steps, i have no idea what i am saying and the only listed lyrics for the tatar singers are the title in quotations at the top, in order.
The music is made from two loops from the record “Pee-Wee and Fingers” by Joe “fingers” Carr and W. “pee-wee” Gerhardt Hunt III slowed down quite a bit. The bass is made from a sample of the piano and the back beat is made from me hitting a Glenfiddich scotch can that has contact mic’s on it and then run through an amp.
I wish i could finagle a few more tracks out of this band but I think i just got lucky the once.

If anyone has any ideas what to call this, let me know, for now it’s untitled…..

Chocolate Chuck is a local DJ, who uses unconvetional sources like children records and other strange things in his compositions. His debut “The Goodnight EP” is truly enjoyable and funny, all about bed time etc., and is available for free download here.
here’s one of my favorites:

We also have some new cuts of our own as well as some other new stuff we found.
9pm tonight! (and again at 10 am tomorrow)
Today brings the third installment of the Murder Mountain remote dispatches, and the Corner Pocket Local Music Program will be broadcasting LIVE from Bellingham from the top of Murder Mountain Studios! Our musical guests are Bellinghams Ergo Ego!
Tune in online at www.hollowearthradio.com from 5-7pm today for two hours of local NWxNW music and a live performance from Ergo Ego!
Ergo Ego have a very distinct sound: it is dark, moody, brooming and patient indie rock, channeling the earthy bog corners of Whatcom County and the urban gasoline alley puddles of downtown Bellingham. it is fairly dynamic with pretty strums and bright picks plastered next to blaring distorted riffs and drags. personally, it kind of reminds me of northwest 90’s fav’s Lync meet northwest 90’s fav’s Red Stars Theory. add in a bit of mid 90’s Bellingham The Lighthouse Mission and Two if By Sea*, for a very Whatcom taste. almost feels like hanging out at the Showoff Gallery on a wet spring evening!

We’re moving to a new location today in Wallingford (Goodbye, Phinney Ridge!) - so, the radio is going to be spotty most of the day. Hopefully we’ll have things up and running again by this afternoon/evening. We look forward to this change and we’ll have pictures up soon of our new space (Note: we’re no longer going to be a basement radio, we’ve moved to higher ground and are taking over an attic!)
