Well, it’s Saturday evening, and we’ve experienced a lot of interesting performances and exchanges. The Jesus people were handing out business cards that said “HELL” on them, teens were french kissing in the big fountain, folk punk groups are out in droves on the streets of the Seattle Center grounds, and the Vera Stage has hosted a variety of amazing shows from black metal to sengalese hip hop to Oregan bluegrass. Tune in this weekend! We are broadcasting live from the Vera Stage at Folklife. Better yet, get out of the house, and come say hi to us!

We’ve continued to collect field recordings and interviews at Folklife today, and here are a few more. It’s so exciting to see so many young people busking. The Riley Johnston Folk Stompers are comprised of Riley, a 9 year old fiddle player, and his dad. He was busking so he could buy some legos. I saw this woman with this big hula hoop, and I asked her where she got it, and she said she made it. They just don’t make good hula hoops anymore, so I am also going to totally make a homemade hula hoop. You should too. Hula Hoop Construction HOW-TO below - - along with other field recordings!

We’re streaming live this weekend from the Northwest Folklife Festival down at Seattle Center. We’ll be at the VERA stage interviewing the bands and broadcasting their performances. Tonight is a theme on Cascadian Black Metal Folk. I KNOW! Double-U Tee F!!! It’s going to be amazing! Dj Cleveland Cuts is out in the field and we’ll be keeping it real all evening - probably live blogging and taking photos of the festivities!! Email us with any questions for the bands!

And stay tuned all weekend!!
Hellyeafuckyes! The Dodos are back with their second full-length album, “Visiter”! Think West African Ewe drumming meets blues fingerpicking meets tribal chants reminiscent of Akron/Family. Check it out if you know what’s good for you. They’ll be in Seattle on the 25th of June, playing with the OhSees at Neumos. Put on your friend hat- I’ll see you there!
