We are in the process of setting up a new domain at hollowearthradio.org and are working on re-implementing the site over there. In the meantime, the blog has already moved so all new posts can be found here:

Corner Pocket Live From Oldest Restaurant West Of The Mississippi!

So the Corner Pocket Local Music Program for Whatcom & Skagit Counties in Bellingham today, broadcasting Live Remote at Bellingham’s Legendary Horseshoe Cafe which has done its research enough to boost as being the “Oldest continuously running Restaurant west of the Mississippi.” (re: pretty fucking sweet). Live Remote is Easy & Fun! Come join the team! Here’s some photos of the set-up and our co-hosts Joshua & Sally running the show (remember, it takes TONS of training and an almost INSURMOUNTABLE amount of professional talent* to run your own radio station!):

*by this we simply mean: a crappy laptop, internet access, possibly a mic and definitely the will!

Homage to the Animist Orchestra

Filed under: Uncategorized, Found Sound / Free MP3, DJ Talk — amberkai @ 7:20 pm

Last night during the St Rainbow Show, we performed an homage to the Animist Orchestra. We used only natural materials trying not to purposely make beats or music during this improvisation. The idea is that all the sounds made using natural materials and the sounds made from the environment (wind, cars, birds, chairs squeaking) become a part of the sound and ultimately create a composition of music. Here is the performance in full:

St Rainbow Show Tonight - June 16th!

Only! Only! Only! Tonight on Hollow Earth Radio Amber & I will share new music picks from Wall of Sound,
including Sublime Frequencies recordings from Burma and Thai Pop! We’ll also be debuting musics by Doug Haire who
recently recorded our found sound set for an upcoming episode of Sonarchy! Plans also include live snippets from a noisy
show last night at the Bikery with Talbot Tagora, Climax Golden Twin and Shearing Pinx, && music just recently imported in our
library submitted by peeps all over the world. The plan is also to do an homage to the animist orchestra (who we just heard about
this weekend) - read more about that here: http://www.jerman.littleenjoyer.com/animist.html

Also, I just picked up a rerelease of Penetration - An Aquarian Symphony by the YaHoWha 13. Check this out! It’s basically a bunch of psychadelic jams done at 5 a.m. in the morning by a former religious group based in L.A. Apparently they would wake up and pray and then go in the garage and rock the hell out improvised style! I’ll be playing the entire record tonight. But be warned - the insert claims that listening to the record three times with full attention will cause you to never want to listen to another type of music ever again. Personally, spinning this record tonight will be my round two and I believe I will have to keep it safely on the shelf from here on out … it’s like saying BeetleJuice too many times.

Remote Broadcast Today from Kent “Sub-Station”! wait… what? wtf?

just another chance to blame things on seattle metro transit (boy, those busses are packed these days, aren’t they?):

So, todays Corner Pocket Program was intended to be another typical broadcast from Hollow Earth Radio Headquarters. I was excited, too, because I have been out of town (went to Minnesota to visit the grandma and attend the National Conference On Media Reform) and unable to do the show for the last couple of weeks. But then, I wasnt able to get a ride to the Kent Station to catch my bus to Seattle and the station. I got super bummed for a few minutes but then excited as it seemed like another good opportunity to try this remote broadcast idea that we here at Hollow Earth are so fond of. The Corner Pocket has been doing several remote live performances from Bellingham at Murder Mountain Records, but always from Mac computers. Garrett and I were having a hard time figuring out how to do it with a PC and pc-oriented programs. but i fiddled around today a bit and was finally able to unlock the secret code! So I am currently broadcasting from my families home here in Kent. This shit is so easy. You really need to start your own station soon! Maybe it will look something like this TOTALLY GLAMOROUS POSH “studio”:
A Sky View of The Kent “Station” (my summer house):

A Skyde View of The Kent “Station”:

Set-Up Part One: WAY PAST DUE Media Loan Equipment from Evergreen (here acting as the studio mixing board and microphone):

Set-Up Part Two: WAY BANGED UP Toshiba Laptop, running the free programs Audacity and Win-Amp in order to create the playlist and record the airbreaks and broadcast via the houses WiFi connection:

Set-Up Part Three: The house computer, used here only to monitor the signal and make sure it was working properly:

The outside view of the Hollow Earth Radio Kent Substation:

Hopefully soon Garrett, Amber and I will wrap up and make available our Hollow Earth “Guide To Creating Your Own Internet Radio Station” which will also cover how you can be a part of our coming network of substations, where hopefully you can broadcast house shows and radio dj sets from your town on our “frequency.” Holla!
