HER will be broadcasting a short, 9 minute audio clip designed to help all us confused washington voters with the crazy system of caucuses and primaries this year. all washington voters should be excited that this year the primaries in our state WILL ACTUALLY MATTER in the selection of the parties eventual nominees. kind of a unique situation since the nominee’s are usually locked up by the time we have our primaries! it is a crazy system, though:

did you know that the ballot you may have got in the mail and the 2/19 primary are just symbolic votes if you are a democrat?

yep. if you want your vote to count as a democrat THEN YOU MUST attend the Caucuses which are this Saturday. (see below for more information as well)

Friday at (roughly)10am, 2pm, 8:30pm and midnight

So, it is pretty exciting to be a Washington State Voter this year as it looks like both the Democratic and Republican races will not be narrowed down until Washingtonians have cast there votes! It is a bit of a bummer, though, because we have one of the most confusing sets of state election rules right now, and that is saying a lot, as there are many weird state varieties to be found!

We at Hollow Earth are going to try and help sort out the madness, though, for you with a short 10-15 minute State Election Rules rundown recording that we will broadcast leading up to February 9th (Caucus Day!)

For now, maybe, here is just this first little tidbit:

If you are a democrat, you have to caucus on February 9th for your vote to matter. There is a primary scheduled for feb 19th (you may have gotten a ballot in the mail already), but that vote DOES NOT COUNT AT ALL. It is only symbolic.

If you are a republican. 51% of the delegates will be rewarded based on the caucus and 49% based on the primary. I believe you can even do both, if you want! Weird!
