New in the annals of Hollow Earth Radio’s Found Sound Archives comes : “Such is the nature of all associations …”. I found this tape in a bulky oversized recorder from the eighties that was calling my name. It was completely on a whim that I would choose to walk into the Goodwill that day, but I noticed the tape inside and listened. There appeared to be voices. I took it home.
On the walk back I listened to people riding in a pickup truck out to their farm and talking about turning on Aurora. So we can determine that it is local…
Later, and what appears here in mp3 format, a snippet from some sort of city meeting which I believe to have occurred in Ballard.
On the other side of the tape is a woman rehearsing an ordination for someone into the Order of the Eastern Star. Google that shit. And if you don’t see me again, this tape is why.
You will hear the woman talk briefly - rehearsing her lines when she interjects on accident over the city council meeting. It seems to be perfect timing.
One of my new favorites.

This year at the 2007 Carousel Fest, August 24 - 26th join in the Hollow Earth Radio Field Recording project!!!
We want you to record all of your day to day interactions during the weekend of this spectacular event!
Get on tape your conversations with people on the bus on your way down to the Dog Park, gossip between cool kids out in front of S.S. Marie, or even the fart noises of people in the bathroom at Camp Nowhere.
Bring your own recording equipment, whether it be a digital mini-disc recorder, a small four-track, or even a shitty micro-cassette recorder. Hollow Earth Radio staff will loan out equipment on Friday at the festival while supply lasts.
If you don’t have anything else to record with, call into our phone line at 206 905 1250 and use your cellphone to record sounds.
We will compile the Carousel Fest sound blips you provide and air them at a later date! See you there!

Hollow Earth Radio will be at the Carousel Fest this year so come by and say hello!

Mic Check 1-206 is a show with the motive to keep that Northwest/Seattle (206) Hip-hop movement alive, a show that is totally dedicated to great underground hip-hop that hasn’t gotten the plays it deserves, with a hope to have the show highlight local artists. In other words Mic Check 1-206 takes a break from all that pop-lockin, show stoppin, lean wit it and rockin, and party like rock star-in, and all those ay-bay-bay’s. If you want to hear the dopest hip-hop from your neck of the woods, tune in and let the beats and rhymes take over. In addition, if you are a local hip-hop artist interested in getting some plays you can email or mail your songs in. I will listen, and you will most likely get played. So Seattle wake up and smell the hip-hop!
The peeps over at Dearborn at Woodland have a great new art/studio spot that you have to check out. Rumor is they’ll be hosting film nights, live music, art gallery openings, and story telling evenings. It’s totally rad, and for those of you who stay north of Lake Union, it’s cozy spot in Fremont will make you happy.
Speaking of lakes, Ian (of Snowman Plan), Forest and Joseph Peter all recently conducted an interview with Tissø Lake at the new Dearborn space. We’ll be airing this interviewing on Tuesday August 7th @ 8pm PST.
We’ll re-air the interview on Wednesday at 2pm and Saturday at 4pm. It’s a really good one - the interview was recorded in the backyard with kids and cars rushing by in the background. Don’t miss it.
This is a tape that Amber and Garrett found at the White Elephant thrift store in Ravenna.
Garrett’s take on the tape: I think it’s a mix tape of home recordings some guy did for a girl named “Cecilia” that he was trying to impress. The music ranges from killer riffage, to skinny puppy esque industrial, to ambient ambient, to Jonathon Richmond type sing songs. Freaking weird.
The back of the tape just says “Originals”.
Download all of them here:
1. Riffin’ My Love
2. A skinnier puppy
3. Ambient ambient
4. I can fly higher than an eagle
5. a modern lover
2. a stairway to heaven

Joseph Peter, of Whprwhil Records, took this photo of Gregory & The Hawk at Hollow Earth Radio studio. They did a performance and interview this past week. We’ll be re-airing portions of this performance soon. Look on our daily schedule to find out when. Yay! They were awesome.
We took a trip to the Olympic Peninsula in July, and we scoured the record and electronic sections of every thrift store we could on the peninsula. Unfortunately, the goldmine of a junk store that we’ve had a lot of luck at before is now condemned. We were soo sad about this, but it forced us to keep our eyes out for more rubies along the way. We happened to find a standard Goodwill in Port Angeles that had a really great Eskimo record amidst a stack of Disney recordings. The record is called “Evolution of Eskimo Music,” and has one traditional song on one side, and three modern (possibly Christian) songs on the other. We have no idea how old it is. Listen to Hollow Earth Radio into the early morning hours on the weekends, and you’ll probably hear it.
