This is Garrett with a special report on the Bop Street Records shows on Hollow Earth Radio.
Amber, Jake, Sasha and I have already started putting together programs and they are actually pulling together much better than I would have thought. Okay, so maybe we forgot a power supply for the mixer last time. And RCA cables. And a mic chord. But we still managed to figure out how to pump out some great jams on a shoestring (thatis $0.00) budget. The best part was stealing a mic cable from the band the Pop Machine that practices on the other side of the basement ( only to have to give it back midway through our set when they all showed up for practice!!!!!) Oh well. That just means more Joni Mitchell and Christian Rock, less talk! We’ll promise to get our shit together next time.
In case you don’t know about the Bop Street shows here’s a little insider tip. We are going to start doing weekly recorded “live” shows down in the bottom of Bop Street Records in Ballard where there are reportedly over 400,000 records for us to root around in. We’ll be airing these shows on a regular basis, and we’re hoping to have theme nights. For intance, last weekend we had a scavenger hunt based on a point system; since it’s a crapshoot with most of the records (we can only base what to play on the cover) we decided to have a point system and seek out records based on the album art depicting things like:
1. Tom Selleck mustache.
2. Unicorn
3. Goths
4. Someone standing on someone else’s shoulders
5. Brick Wall
etc.
I mean, c’mon! Aren’t you dying to find out what this record sounds like? I scored 2 points for my team because of this guy’s “Bad Haircut”.

We’ll be posting a schedule for when we actually air these shows! Thanks to Hilary for being our special guest!
If you want to come down next time and spin records with us, drop us a line.

We just got finished moving over to our new webhost through Rock and Roll Hosting . We searched and searched for a host that was compatible with our goals, and we liked the fact that Rock and Roll Hosting was such a small operation. Seth has been very gracious with getting us configured and ready to go for the January 1st, start date. He’s also in charge of all the streaming so we’d like to thank him for his help.
Also, thanks to all of you for sticking with us through the down time!
This weekend we recorded and interviewed both Christina Antipa and Evening Plains over at the 414 house.
These shows will be aired separately sometime in the month of January. Tonight we’re going to another SeattleDIY meeting to interview the cast of your favorite dumpster-diving, music-supporting, resource-collecting, silk-screen organizin’, hard-workin’ volunteers. We’re going to get the scoop on this group and get down to the bottom of their obsession with “Magic the Gathering” - and also get out the word on the great things they do for the community.
Keep looking back at the schedule to see when you can tune in for these shows and other awesome content - we should be updating soon.
Here’s Benji from SeattleDIY totally stoked on with his Magic Deck:
We’ve been lucky so far. We’ve culled over 80 albums from off the streets and we’re still warmly welcoming more music from all over the country. Thanks to everyone who’s sending stuff in —> A special thank you to K Records, Woodson Lateral Records, and Beep Repaired all of whom sent large slices of their collections for us to share. We want to keep building our library so please keep ‘em coming!
